In 2005, Mi’kmaq historian Daniel Paul wrote an editorial for a Halifax newspaper stating there are no people of Metis heritage living in Atlantic Canada. The Confederacy of Nova Scotia Metis replied to Paul’s article, arguing there is indeed Metis people living in the region.
