In July 2005, the Canadian government declared the annual St. Anne’s Mission in Chapel Island First Nation, N.S. a national historic site. To mark the occasion, Mi’kmaq canoeists representing the seven Mi’kmaq districts of the Mi’kmaq Nation paddled to the commemoration ceremony.
